Tips for running a successful campaign

  • Get Leadership Buy-In

Meet with your company or business leader(s) to explain the campaign’s purpose and impact.

Ask for their visible support - emails, kickoff speeches, or matching donations.

  • Build your Campaign Team!
Recruit a few passionate coworkers to help plan and promote the campaign.
  • Set Clear Goals

Decide what success looks like: total donations, participation rate, volunteer hours.

Use past campaign data (if available) to set realistic and motivating targets.

  • Plan a Kick Off Event

Host a fun and informative launch breakfast, lunch-and-learn, or virtual meeting.

Invite a United Way representative or someone impacted by the programs to speak.

  • Educate & Inspire

Share stories of how United Way helps local families, youth, and ALICE households.

Use videos, flyers, and social media to keep the message fresh and engaging (all found on the campaign toolkit)

  • Make Giving Easy

Provide clear instructions for payroll deductions, online giving, or paper pledges.

Offer incentives like raffles, dress-down days, or team competitions.

  • Keep the Momentum Going

Send regular updates on progress and shout-outs to departments or individuals.

Share impact stats and thank donors throughout the campaign.

  • Celebrate & Say Thank You

Host a wrap-up event or send a heartfelt thank-you message.

Recognize top contributors and share the final impact of the campaign.

  • Evaluate & Improve

Gather feedback from your team and participants.
