United Way Funds to Help Local Residents
Over $734,000 in funding will be provided to local human service agencies through the United Way in the coming months as decided by the United Way Board of Directors at their meeting held Thursday. That is an increase of $85,925 from the previous year.
The United Way of Bay County Board of Directors has recently agreed to allocate over $638,116 to support 39 programs that benefit local youth, people needing assistance with basic needs, and programs that improve the community’s health. In all, the Board voted to provide funding to 18 United Way Partner Agencies based upon the recommendations made by six panels of volunteers totaling some 50 members of the community.
Other programs to receive funding include the American Dream Program, which removes barriers to education and employment, at $45,987. Michigan Rehabilitative Services received $10,000 to support employment services for the disabled. The funding for Michigan Rehabilitative Services will enable the agency to receive $30,000 in additional matching funds from the State of Michigan.
Nine new programs to receive United Way support include: Bay Area Family Y Special Needs Health and Fitness Program, Lutheran Child and Family 304 Tuscola Youth Mentoring Program for foster care youth, and Bay County Child and Senior Citizen Centers Fremont Center Childcare program among others.
In addition to their allocation, local agencies will receive $40,564 in designations from individual donors through United Way’s fall campaign that successfully raised $1.1 million. The dollars raised are also invested in local, state and national agencies and United Way of Bay County volunteer and community service programs such as the back to school clothing drive, and free tax preparation services that returned over $2.2 million dollars in tax credits and refunds to Bay County last year.
It is never too late to support the United Way. If you are interested in making a donation or volunteer, visit unitedwaybaycounty.org or call 893-7508.
