Emergency Food and Shelter programs will continue to get support this year. The Bay County Local Emergency Food and Shelter Board recently awarded $57,588 to seven local agencies who provide emergency food, shelter and utility assistance. This investment represents a 40.2% decrease in funding from last year.
Congress appropriated a total of $119,760,000 to supplement and expand emergency food and shelter programs. The local award amount is determined by the National Emergency Food & Shelter Board Program and is directly related to the average number of Bay County unemployed individuals from March 2010-February 2011 as compared to the total number of unemployed in all qualifying jurisdictions.
The Emergency Food and Shelter Program is administered locally by the United Way of Bay County. All EFSP funds are used for direct services, with no administration fees taken by any of the agencies receiving those funds.
The following agencies were awarded funds to utilize for food, shelter and emergency assistance.
