Every year thousands of young children in Bay County who live in poverty go back to school in worn out clothing and shoes that have holes in them or do not fit. In 2010, nearly 900 of these children were able to go back to school with new clothing and shoes due to United Way’s Back to School Clothing Program and the heartwarming generosity of the Bay County residents and organizations that supported this program.
This year, there are over 1,000 school age kids that have applied for the program! It is highly imperative that we get more community involvement to successfully support all of these children. There are many ways that you can contribute as an individual or a business/organization. You can volunteer, donate, or sponsor a child(ren).
Any business or individual interested in helping a child should contact Vicki Ribble at the United Way office at 989.893.7508 ext. 15. The average cost to sponsor a child is $65. Contributions to this program may also be mailed to United Way of Bay County, Back to School Clothing Program, 909 Washington Avenue, Suite 2, Bay City MI 48708.
